The National Electronics Recycling Infrastructure Clearinghouse (NERIC) was begun in early 2006 to conduct research and education on electronics recycling systems. Since then NERIC research has focused on several key elements of electronics recycling systems, including analyses of private sector-led, multi-state systems as an alternative to creation of new government bureaucracies. This Clearinghouse continues to serve as an industry-backed resource on a variety of recycling systems-level issues of interest to a broad range of stakeholders, including local, state and national government officials, manufacturers, recyclers, and environmental advocacy groups.
Underlying the Clearinghouse is the assumption that cross-state harmonization and joint implementation offer an efficient alternative to independently regulated and administered state-specific systems. As more individual states develop mandatory electronics recycling programs, stakeholders from across the spectrum seem to agree on the need for industry-led collective action to help ensure development of logical and efficient electronics recycling systems.
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is the trade association of the United States consumer electronics and information technology industries with 2,100 members involved in all aspects of the consumer electronics industry. The National Center for Electronics Recycling (NCER) is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to coordinating the many initiatives targeting the recycling of end-of-life electronics in the United States and supporting actions to move towards a national system. |
